MICS™ Minimally Invasive Cochlear System

MICS places our local formulations at the round window membrane, the entry point to the inner ear, under direct visualization. Each formulation is matched to the delivery needs of its drug substance. Intratympanic administration is performed in the clinic under local anesthesia.

How MICS works

Direct visualization at the round window membrane

Standard intratympanic injections are performed blind. The physician cannot see whether the drug reaches the round window membrane. Surgical approaches are precise but require an operating room.

MICS bridges the two. The single-use MICS Applicator combines a camera, illumination and an injection cannula, so the physician can see the round window membrane while placing the formulation on it. Intratympanic administration is performed in the clinic under local anesthesia.

Visualized

The physician sees the round window membrane during placement.

In clinic

Intratympanic administration under local anesthesia, with no operating room.

Adaptable

Formulations matched to each drug substance, from small molecules to proteins and advanced therapies.

Versatility

One system across drug classes

MICS places the right drug at the right target. Each drug substance is paired with a formulation suited to it, so the same system works with small molecules, proteins and advanced therapies.

Small molecules

Formulations of approved and novel agents, including our most advanced program.

Proteins

Neurotrophins and other biologics, where formulation and local exposure have historically been the bottleneck.

Advanced therapies

Gene and cell therapies, where placement at the round window membrane matters most.

Why it matters

Access is what has held the field back

The biology of inner ear disease is better understood than ever, and promising molecules exist. What has been missing is a reliable way to place enough drug at the inner ear. MICS and our local formulations are designed to address that, so more inner ear therapies can reach patients.
